Purgatory Chasm

My name is Ashley Covel and this is my virtual tour. I live in West Boylston, it is unique, it is because west boylston is 12.9 square miles and there are about 7,000 people that live here The reservoir used to be the where the town was located before they dug it down deeper. They left because the floods were destroying the town. The old stone church was the only thing that was not destroyed from the floods making it a very important land mark. And most importantly there are places to go and have fun.

I chose the Purgatory chasm as my tour because my family and I love to visit here. We have been going here for a long time.

It is fun adventurous and can be a good family outing. It provides exercise for almost all ages. There are two different hiking trails, two picnic areas and one is even equipped with grills. While the parents cook the children can play on the playground

Here is the welcome sign to the Purgatory Chasm

Parking

The Purgatory chasm is free and it is open from sunrise until sunsett. This is the parking lot leading up to it.

Information Center

This is inside of the information center. It has many different things inside it. This includes nests

Lunch

Here is a picture of one of the resting areas that are located at purgatory. There are many picnic tables here. It is a very nice spot to eat and it provides a lot of shade.

Climbing

This is a picture of a little girl climbing up a huge rock before the trails.

This is the "mouth" to the cave

Here is the entrance to the chasm's trails.

Warning

This is in the entrance to a trail. It is a warning. It states that this trail is meant for people who are fit because it is a dangerous slippery path. It also asks that visiters do not bring any food or drink onto the trails.

A Long Way Down

This shows the top of one hill looking further along the trail. It also shows that rocks are everywhere

Going up?

This is looking directly up one of the boulders that line the edges of the trails. Sometimes you can see professsional rock climbers working their way up the sides of these rocks.

Shortcut

In the end of spring and getting towards the beginning of summer the trail can get very muddy. This is one of the shortcut that I take so that I can avoid the mud.

Signs

There are many different signs along the trail directing you to cifferent places here is a sign directing people to fat man's misery

Fat Man's Misery

This is Fat man's misery. It gets its name because it is a small space between tow large rocks. If a fat person were to go in their they would easily get stuck. Though it is also dangerous. I went in their and did not realize one of the rocks had fallen and I almost fell through,

Other picnic area

This picnic area is located next to the information center. This shows one of the picnic tables and a grill to cook food on. There are also swings nearby and there used to be a slide as well.
