Students in the High
School now have a new club to join. According to
the Mission Statement, “Helping Paws” was created as a
way for kids at West Boylston High School to get
involved in the local communities to better the lives of
animals in need. The club will aid and
support shelters that help animals to find homes through
fundraisers and various activities and events in the
school and community. Two of the main shelters we
support are Sterling Animal Shelter and Worcester Animal
Rescue League. “Helping Paws” has over 35 members in all
four grades!
Our
officers are as follow:
President and
Founder – Maggie Hughes
Vice-President – Emily Swalec, Secretary – Kim Cerullo,
Treasurer – Christiane Germaine, Communications Chairman
– and Events Chairman – Fletcher Viders.
Events
Our latest
fundraising project was Helping Paw's annual Giving
Tree! The tree is up by the library and has tags with
supplies that the shelters need to keep going. Monetary
donations can be given to Maggie Hughes or Club advisor
Mrs. Avery.
“Helping Paws” first event was the
showing of an afternoon movie to raise some funds.
“Ratatouille” was shown and homemade goodies were
shared. The event was a huge success! It was
such a success that the club held another movie
afternoon on December 11th with “Elf” as the
main attraction.
