Why we want healthy foods..

Peer Counseling

WHAT ARE WE GAINING FROM THIS PROGRAM?

What is AFHK?

A group of students from grades 11 and 12 met together after school twice a month to discuss issues pertaining to health in the school.

Why is health so important: Healthy eating at a young age can reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer and most fatal diseases.

Eating healthy isn't the only thing that's important! Physical activity is as well.

YEAR 06-07

Peers will lead and peer advisor, Mrs.Choquette, will advise to implement the action plan goals.

Action Plan

Top priorities and goals:

-Implementing healthier foods into our vending machines and/or implementing a new healthy foods vending machine.

-Supplying a healthier "a la carte" selection that is both affordable and appealing.

-Organizing a wider range of intramural activities and making them accessible to the entire student body for a higher percentage of involvement.

-Improving the overall variety and quality of nutrition during the school time for the student body.

2005 School year:

The students committed to the AFHK group received a $1,000 grant that they applied for previously in the year. With this grant, the group is coming up with ideas to make the cafeteria and physical education more efficient.

2007 school year:

AFHK is now going to be offering healthy food in the morning before class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, this will ensure that our students will be able to get a bite to eat on a rushed hectic morning. There are also two students in the wellness committee working on a district wellness policy. For more information on the schools food click here!
